Maikudi Shehu Musawa Perception of Nigerian (SMEs) on Electronic Data Interchange Adoption

The wide adoption of electronic data interchange (EDI) by the SMEs is important for the success of the technology. A review of past EDI adoption literature indicates that past studies have focused mainly on large businesses. With the advance of technology, SMEs businesses are now able to enjoy the benefits of EDI. SMEs businesses are the backbone of the economy in Nigeria, despite these facts, there are relatively no identified studies on perception of EDI adoption among the Nigerian SMEs. A conceptual model is then proposed to address the above issues. The model may help Nigerians SMEs to achieve higher impacts on their businesses from the adoption of EDI and may also provide strategic roadmap for SMEs in other African countries. Using a technology, organization, and environment framework, this study tested a perception base model against the data collected from 204 SMEs firms in Nigeria. Four factors that were found to be significant in the SMEs EDI adoption were direct benefits, indirect benefits, financial resources, and external pressure to adopt EDI. The results of this study could provide insight into unique factors that drive EDI adoption by SMEs in Nigeria.

Muhammad Akhlaqur Rahman Understanding the users perception towards electronic-HRM

The overwhelming penetration of the fastest information technology into every sector of organisations has brought about the need of its application towards traditional HRM functions. The effective perception of users’ technology acceptance has been a subject of thorough discussion. This research investigates users’ perception towards comprehensive e-HRM at the University of Surrey as a hypothetical platform for HRM. Therefore, this research has been conducted based on two conceptual propositions: Lepak and Snell’s four scientific perspectives of e-HRM and Davis’ Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Following the deductive approach, online questionnaire has been administrated and surveyed among the members of staff across the University of Surrey via email. Upon the collection of data through online survey, this research has shown the in-depth analysis of users’ perception about the hypothetical electronic platform for HRM at the pre-implementation stage. The collected data has been assessed and examined through satistical testes. The results of correlation coefficient indicate that the perception towards comprehensive e-HRM system is positively related to its perceived usefulness.

Anastasia Shalonya Internationalization of SMEs and foreign institutional environment

Internationalization of SMEs is a new direction for research and more and more scholars focus their attention on this phenomenon. Since SMEs comprise the vast majority of the population of firms in Europe, and barriers to internationalization are falling, researchers are increasingly examining SME internationalization issues. However, knowledge about the impact of the foreign country's institutional context on internationalization of SMEs is still rather limited. The research devoted to the influence of institutional environment on the degree of SMEs internationalization is restricted in the form of examining domestic environment that pushes SMEs to go international. The host institutional context may significantly challenge firm's internationalization efforts, though. For the successful internationalization, SMEs should be aware of the challenges that arise from insufficiently developed institutions. These challenges are only limitedly explored.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are known to making significant contribution to the economies of both developed and developing nations in terms of employment generation and development impacts. Overall, SMEs are known to constitute more than 90% of business worldwide and account for between 50% and 60% of employment and more than half of gross domestic product. The similar contribution by SMEs is observed in Malaysia as well. SMEs and Economic Integration in Southeast Asia

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for about 97–99 per cent of total enterprises and 60–80 per cent of total employment in ASEAN countries. The participation of SMEs is thus crucial for achieving greater regional economic integration amongst ASEAN countries. SMEs are, however, often constrained by many disadvantages that limit their abilities to become importers and exporters. This is well documented in the research literature on trade and firm size. This volume contains selected ASEAN country studies on the participation of SMEs in regional economic integration based on primary microdata. This is supplemented by empirical studies on the role played by East Asian multinational enterprises in the region. "The editors and authors of SMEs and Economic Integration in Southeast Asia are to be congratulated for this major contribution to the scholarly and policy literature on a subject of much public discussion but limited analytical research. The emphasis on economic integration highlights the importance of these firms in Southeast Asia’s growing regional and global engagement. The thirteen chapters, by leading authors in the field, comprise both insightful country analyses and careful examination of the links between SMEs and foreign investment." Hal Hill, H.W. In contrast to multi-national corporations (MNCs), which are not uncommonly supported by the government of the fast-developing country they stem from respectively they are entering and can continue their triumph easily, SMEs often face tremendous difficulties to establish themselves. While the engine of the economy of industrialized countries are SMEs, it seems as if BRICs, especially Russia, struggle to provide appropriate incentives for the foundation of domestic SMEs in order to boost the economic driving force which interviews.

Karl Luis Neumann Can Transition Countries on the Western Balkan utilise momentum of SMEs to facilitate economic growth.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1,7, Berlin School of Economics, language: English, abstract: Small and medium sized enterprises (SME) represent 99,8% of all businesses in the European Union (EU), provide two-thirds of the non-financial sector employment and account for 85% of the new jobs created in the past five years. Looking at the other side of the Atlantic, the situation is not very different: in the United Stated of America (USA) SMEs account for 99,7% of all firms and 48% of total private-sector employment. It is fair to say that SMEs are the backbone of the two largest economic areas of the world. Considering the enormous share that SMEs have in these economies, it becomes clear that the success of an economy largely depends on the development of its SMEs. This paper aims at examining the impact of SMEs on the development of economies in transition. Specifically, the transition countries of the Western Balkan (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYRM)) will be subject of this paper. Due to the limited word count, Serbia will be used as example since it is the largest economy in the region. The question to be answered is: "Can transition countries on the Western Balkan utilise the economic momentum of SMEs to facilitate economic growth? Evidence from Serbia".

Alice P.F.S. Shemi E-commerce Adoption Factors in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

The development of e-commerce adoption in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries has not been adequately researched to provide depth and practical understanding. This book explores the factors affecting e-commerce adoption in SMEs in a developing country context of Botswana. The research was undertaken in an interpretive paradigm with case studies in nine SMEs. Data collection tools and techniques involved face-to-face semi-structured and unstructured interviews, telephone interviews, website content analysis, document analysis of SME reports and observations. A conceptual framework was developed to capture elements from extant e-commerce adoption literature. This book makes a theoretical and methodological contribution by providing a philosophically-derived interpretive approach for understanding e-commerce adoption factors in developing country SMEs. Strategies and implications of research findings for the selected SMEs are discussed intensively. The book will be useful to managers of SMEs, senior undergraduate and graduate students in information systems, ICT policy makers in government, public and multinational organisations, and ICT managers.

We realized that even though the project might be, neither too productive, nor too unproductive, reducing such interest rate is inevitable, with the SMEs being involved in borrower selection only. We further, identified statistically the present credit delivery and status of access to these institutions, understanding of interest in loans and SMEs distribution in the country.

Competition Law, Regulation and SMEs in the Asia-Pacific. Understanding Small Business Perspective

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for more than 90 per cent of all businesses in the Asia-Pacific region — an area which is rapidly updating its competition laws and regulations to encourage greater entrepreneurship and open, dynamic economies.Yet SMEs are almost invisible when those competition policies and laws are developed and enforced. SMEs are often quite different businesses than large, multinational corporations, but their nature, significance and characteristics are often overlooked. This book seeks to rectify the relative neglect in research and policy discussions on the role of the SME sector in competition policy and law. Drawing on contributions from a wide range of competition regulators, lawyers, academics, consultants and advisers to the SME sector, it addresses such important issues as:- perceptions and views of small businesses about competition law;- regulator engagement and education of the SME sector;- the link between competition law and economic growth;- franchising, SMEs and competition law;- issues in enforcing competition law against SMEs;- the role of Chinese family firms;- trade, professional and industry associations;- country case studies from Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Hong Kong SAR, Japan and the Pacific Islands. "This book is an important step in remedying the gaps in our knowledge and policy of this important area." -- Dr Alan Bollard, Executive Director, APEC Secretariat

Using secondary data analysis, this hypothesis-driven study sought to understand the relationship between children’s perception of barriers to mental health care and service utilization. There were two unique aspects of this study. First, the data (N=763) was obtained directly from children and second, it involved children across five service systems: mental health, special education, child welfare, juvenile justice, and substance use.

Timi-Freeman Dumah Nigerian On Development

Nigeria has come a long way as a nation. The resilience of the country is an understatement, Nigeria has been bend, twisted, stretched but it did not break like other Africa nations. Leadership crisis in Nigeria is simply due lack of a true leader, decades of corruption and mismanagement especially under military rule (Nigerian leaders are pre-occupied to loot the treasury at both local and national level, tweak the rule of law rather than finding direction on how the country will be prosperous and the needs of common fellow Nigerians). In addition, poor and frequently changing policies and programmes lack of clear vision and commitment to development and a citizenry that submit to the culture of patronage are the major contributions to Nigeria’s past failure to improve the economy. This study investigates the leadership style of selected Nigerian leaders from 1966 through 2014 by examining the leadership attributes of each of the leaders such as Yakubu Gowon, Murtala Mohammed, Olusegun Obasanjo, Shehu Shagari, Muhammadu Buhari, Babangida, Sanni Abacha, Umaru Yaradua, and Goodluck Jonathan to explain the effect of each leaders attributes and leadership styles.

Sandra Steinhauer Helping European SMEs to benefit from B2B eMarketplaces

B2B eMarketplaces are generally seen to bring various benefits to their participants in terms of cost reduction, efficiency gains, simplification of business processes, improvement of information flows and more. However, particularly SMEs still remain hesitant with regards to trading on eMarketplaces. In this book the author analyses the benefits that those trading platforms could offer to SMEs as well as the barriers - whether perceived or real - which still tend to hinder SMEs from taking part in B2B eMarketplaces. Subsequently the book discusses the preconditions that would be necessary to foster SME-participation and the role that public authorities, as well as the SMEs themselves, would have to play in this. The author closes with recommendations to policy makers at regional, national and European level, especially highlighting the role of the European Commission. Besides addressing policy makers and public institutions on all levels, this book aims at business representatives and all kinds of stakeholders in the eBusiness sector as well as European SMEs themselves that are willing to harness the potential of B2B eMarketplaces.

Wenjing Li Fasting, Taste Perception and Metabolic Regulation

Taste perception, via reception of tastants and endocrine signalling within the tongue, plays a key role in consumer acceptance and sensory evaluation of foods. Taste perception triggers hormones that are crucial in the control energy balance and appetite exerts a strong effect on food intake, satiety and metabolic regulation. Due to the complex interaction of genetic, biological and psychological factors, the influence of fasting on the relationship between taste perception and associated metabolic parameters remains to be explored. This book, therefore investigates the effect of fasting on interaction between taste perception and metabolic regulation through three main objectives. The first objective is to explore the relationship between the bitter taste sensitivity and the fatty acid taste sensitivity. The second objective is to investigate the effect of overnight fasting or meal consumption on sweet and fatty acid taste perception. This led to a further investigation on the last objective- the role of key plasma metabolites on fatty acid taste perception in fasting and satiated states.

Mario Schuler The Importance of Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises in Russia relation to the other BRIC countries

Diploma Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, grade: 1, University of Linz (International Management), language: English, abstract: This diploma thesis provides an overview of the contemporary debate about the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the BRIC countries with a special focus on Russia.

Laxmi Shaw Black Tea Quality Evaluation using Electronic Nose & Tongue

Replication of the human olfactory system and the human perception of taste by electronic means have been attempted by scientists. The prototypes are referred as electronic nose and electronic tongue and comprises of compound specific sensors active in gaseous and aqueous medium respectively. Though the electronic prototypes have found conceptual acceptance, the commercialization of the same has been a distant reality. In the present form the areas of utility for the models includes detection and discrimination of complex compounds. The discrimination is based on the variation in the amount of volatiles exuded in the case of the electronic nose as detected by the gas sensors and the change in electron balance in the case of the electronic tongue whose electrode constituencies record the variation.Either of the instruments has attracted attention in the field of discrimination of beverages, environmental pollution, medical diagnosis etc. The systems are often towed with a pattern recognition engine that enables performing complex analysis of the sensor signals generated to suit a particular application.Estimation of quality of tea using electronic nose and tongue has been attempted.
